Smart driving habits can reduce air pollution.
- Carpool, vanpool, take transit, telework, bike or walk when possible.
- Plan ahead to combine trips and errands.
- Limit idling and drive within the speed limit.
- Drive on properly inflated radial tires.
- Refuel cars early or late in the day to limit daytime pollution releases and don't top off your tank.

Other ways to reduce air pollution:
- Use electric or natural gas grills instead of charcoal and lighter fluids.
- Use environmentally-safe paints and cleaning products.
- Avoid using gas-powered lawn equipment on Air Quality Action Days, or delay using them until after 6 p.m.
- Conserve energy by setting air conditioners at 78 degrees or higher.
- Turn out lights and equipment when not in use.
- Buy energy efficient lighting and Energy Star appliances and electronics.
